Ladies and gentlemen, on this special Bastille day, after over 19 years, 7062 days, 169 488 hours, 610 156 800 seconds or so, the aging folks of #lamonae@irc.rizon.net are able to finish the Cream Lemon classic episodes series for real, despite the COVID epidemic, the Trump chaos and the death of Akira Toriyama.
It took about 5 translators, 2 QCers, 3 encoders and (only?) 1 timer to achieve this feature. We have witnessed the rise of social media and 'modern' chat services like Discord, but we decided to rely on 70s technology like IRC to communicate about the progress of our releases ;-) Many thanks to our visitors that came during all that time and to those that still come (right Mr Z ?).
Many other historical things could be added but I'll come to today's meal. Dark is an oddity among the Cream Lemon production. It started as a scenario contest, won by some university student who used the nickname 'Nicolas Lloyd'. Initial chara design (with a strong lolicon touch) was made by manga artist Shinda Mane, then it stalled for many months. The thing started to look like a wrecktrain, it was probably subcontracted to a low-level studio, finished by a young Hiroshi Osaka (of Studio Bones fame). It was released right between two episodes of Shin Cream Lemon series without any coherence, and not even distributed by Fairy Dust.
The story is a mixture of horror and adventure (the beginning is almost like an Indiana Jones movie lol), with references to the Apocalypse book. The result is quite uneven in terms of storytelling and animation quality, but if you are a fan of antique dolls, eroguro and unexpected endings, you will have some good moments, after you rewatch all the rest of the series of course!
It got a US release as part of the Brothers Grime madness, so uncensored version exists but the level of editing is unbelievable. The final sex scene of the japanese version with a close-up penis insertion has be reused at least 10 times on the murican version! This release has been so much delayed already that some other teams of individuals have already made their own fansubs, but ours is probably the only one based on the actual script thanks to the Film Comics!
This release is censored as the others, but we still plan to make a V2 release using the uncensored footage as efficiently as possible. But yeah, this is (almost) the end my friends, so rejoice :)
